What the permit reports show

Arcadia does not post a fee schedule for panel work, but its monthly permit reports list what residents paid on issued permits. For a 200A upgrade the line went from $64.49 in March 2019 to $87.51 in August 2023, then $91.46 in September 2024. That is a steady yearly climb, so a quote built on an old number may be low. The early figures may or may not have included plan check or state fees. For ranges across Southern California, use the panel upgrade cost page.

Two names on the bill

Clean Power Alliance sets the generation rate. SCE still owns the lines, the meter and the outage response. Anything that changes the service, such as a bigger panel with a new meter location, starts with a request to SCE, then the city permit, then the city inspection that releases the meter. The timeline and meter spot guide explains why that order matters. Put the SCE request in early, because the city’s review is a separate wait and the whole chain is measured in weeks.

Small ranches and large rebuilds

A panel from the original build is common in Arcadia, since about 4 in 10 homes predate 1960 and nearly 6 in 10 predate 1970. Look at an older panel before anything new is added to it. At the other end, the March 2026 report shows jobs to 320A and a few multi-meter 400A panels, usually on larger replacement houses. For those sizes, read the 400 amp service page.

Chargers, and when to go to the counter

ARC-022 is the charger checklist, and it asks for the load figures behind the circuit. The load calculation page shows how those are worked out. The counter takes permits Monday to Thursday until 4:30 p.m. and Friday until 3:30 p.m., and it is closed alternate Fridays, so check the calendar before you drive over. Inspections are requested in the EDGE portal. If a full panel is what stands between you and a charger, SCE’s Charge Ready Home covers income-qualified or disadvantaged-community households of SCE customers; confirm current terms before you plan around it.

Foothill edge and fall wind

Arcadia sits in climate zone 9, with hot summers and a strong afternoon air conditioning load. Santa Ana winds blow in the fall near the foothills. If you are on the northern edge, the city’s wildland bulletin applies to construction, and the PSPS power shutoffs guide covers what to expect if SCE ever shuts power off for fire weather. A home battery is the usual answer for those who want power through an outage.

Questions about electrical work in Arcadia

What have Arcadia homeowners paid in permit fees for a 200 amp panel?

About $98 in March 2026, based on the city's monthly permit listing, and a few permits at $96.68. Those are charges seen on issued permits, not a line from a fee schedule, so plan check or state fees may be added. The same job with an EV outlet showed $108.61. Ask Building Services for the current total.

Do I deal with Clean Power Alliance or Edison for my panel and meter in Arcadia?

Edison. Clean Power Alliance only buys the power and sets the generation rate. SCE owns the service wires and the meter, so a meter spot or service request goes to SCE. The city's Building Services page links SCE's Request for Power guidance. Your bill carries both names, which is why this gets confused.

How does the Arcadia EV charger checklist work?

Form ARC-022, effective January 1, 2023, is a supplement to the building permit application. Once the city deems it complete, the permit is eligible for expedited review. If the install might have a specific adverse impact on health or safety, the city asks for extra verification. The form follows AB 1236 and the state guidebook.

My Arcadia house is being rebuilt as a larger home. Should I plan for a 320 or 400 amp service?

Think about it early. The city's March 2026 permit report shows 320 amp services and a few multi-meter 400 amp panels next to the common 200 amp job. Large new houses with a pool, two EVs and heat pumps are where those sizes show up. An electrician's load calculation sets the number.

Do foothill homes in Arcadia need extra wildfire construction rules for electrical work?

The city posts a Construction Requirements in Wildland-Urban Interface bulletin on its Applications and Forms page, aimed at foothill parcels. Check it before you design an outdoor panel or a mast. Building Services at (626) 574-5416 can tell you whether your parcel is covered, and it takes one call.
